Preschool

K has officially started preschool. So far so good. He's doing well potty wise at school, and I think it's helping in that respect too. He's noticing the other kids use the potty too and it helps to get him to realize his parents aren't crazy, and really, truly, everyone goes potty. Eventually.

On Fridays they have outdoor play days. The teacher said that they had a few tears when he noticed I was gone after dropping him off, but that they got him into doing some crazy carpet sledding. She said it took him a few tries to get down the hill, but then there was no stopping him! Apparently they had a good chuckle because he went from being timid and shy to right in there playing in no time! One extreme to the other she said!

Tomorrow is another preschool day, let's hope I remember everything this time! The kids aren't the only ones learning a few things about preschool, let me tell you!

And, a little T update. He's growing like a weed. Like his Aunt hadn't seen him in a week and a half and noticed how tall he's gotten so suddenly. Heck, I've noticed and I see him everyday! I can see it in how his chubby little round face is slimming out. Well, and everything else too! And he's getting really good at using his "please" signing when he wants something and is even saying "Dak-u" when he gets it! One proud momma here!

Potty trials

K is now almost 3 1/2 and still not using the potty. This would not be a problem if he would just stop pooping in his Pull-ups, then take it off in the middle of the carpeted living room and leave a big mess. Plus, I know he has the ability, he simply has no desire to try.

So, today we were at the toy store and went through the potty section. He seemed very interested in picking out a potty, but couldn't decide on which one. At one point he had three different ones off the shelf and a fourth he was looking at. He even seemed quite interested in the pink princess potty chair, he loved the sound it makes. If it'd help him use the potty, I'm all for it, the only problem was it had no "pee guard" for boys since it was - of course - meant for girls. I also should point out that we have a potty. We bought one for him two years ago when he first started showing signs of being interested in the potty. Must be part of the age, because T is quite interested in the potty right now too, even insisting that we take his clothes off so he can sit on it and try.

Tomorrow K and I will go back to the store and see if we can't get him to pick out his own potty chair. And at this point, I have no problem bribing the heck out of him if it means he will finally find some reason to use the potty! So the grand master plan is to buy a new potty and just reward the heck out of him all weekend and see what happens.

Melt My Heart!

Today was a bit busy, K had a meeting with the Speech Therapist this morning, an initial consultation. His communication is a little behind, he has quite a vocabulary, but is not talking in sentences very often. So we got some reassurance that I wasn't making it up along with ideas to help him out. She wasn't too concerned, but enough to want to see him in a few months, as well as gave us a referral for the Hearing specialist to get his hearing checked. As a just in case kind of thing.

After that we went next door to the library, a bit of K and mommy time since T was with his Gramma for this whole morning. So I picked out some books to read while K played with the other kids that were there with their mom. K picked one out that's in French, but he had to have it so I guess his Dad will be reading that one to him! I did pretty darn well in plain high school French, but my French Immersion friends think I mangle the language pretty bad.

When we were done at the library, we went to Gramma's to pick up T and were there just long enough for the dishwasher repair guy to show up. We were in the middle of changing K's bum and he had to run out of the bathroom to see who was at the door and flashed the poor repair guy! He just laughed, asked if he went as a streaker for Halloween and then after K's bum change, got K to help him with some of his tools.

Shortly after that, we went home, put T to bed, had some lunch and watched Toy Story 3. We read a few stories from the library in anticipation of naptime. Naptime didn't happen. Grump time happened. K just played in his room and came out a few times. Then he needed a bath and T woke up. So I fed them some snacks and packed them into the car and we went and grabbed a few groceries. It was very quick - went in, got our stuff, got out. K helped with the self check-out scanner, he thought that was pretty neat.

Then we had dinner, put T to bed, watched some more Toy Story, cleaned up and had stories.

So as I'm leaving, my little guy who barely says 3 words in a sentence, AND has never talked about anything that has happened in the recent past, goes:
"Mom?"
"Yes K?"
"Fanks for Liblary"!
"Aw, you liked the library today!?"
"Fanks for Shopping"!
"You're welcome, bub"
"Fanks for Groceries"!
"Well, you're welcome. Now go to sleep."

Up to Date!

Poor little blog has been long neglected. Let's see if I can fix that.

I've had such high hopes for this blog, and plans change, but maybe I just need to keep at it and see what develops, what kind of personality it has. Or maybe I'm overthinking things and I just need more coffee.

Anyways, things sure have changed. We've moved provinces, being closer to friends and family is great! No, really, it is! Both boys have had their birthdays, so we now have one 3 year old and a 13 month old. I could go on and on about stuff we've missed, so we'll skip the rest and move on to where we are.

"Little" T is a 27lb baby monster. A cute one. Seriously. He's always so happy and rarely does anything make him cranky, but when he is he goes from happy to cranky in 2 seconds. One of his favourite things is waking up in the morning when his brother barges in and getting the windows opened so he can look outside and point. He excitedly dances in his crib, like if he just goes fast enough he could launch himself right out!

Needless to say, he loves food. Even non food. If it's carpet fluff he'll try to eat it. He loves the cat food, so poor Morris has had to have his food moved to the bathroom, two steps away from his litter. Poor Morris, but it's easier to keep an eye on the mobile baby there than the kitchen. And, he's walking. And running. And tormenting his brother while getting tormented, they think it's great fun, I think it's loud.

K is in the middle of potty training. Oh joy! Oh rapture! Oh... carpet cleaner. He gets the idea, but still has trouble catching himself most days. If we have the right (expensive) incentive *cough* bribe *cough*, he is fine. It's a work in progress.

He loves his brother. He'll play nicely by himself all morning, but at the first hint that T might be waking up, he runs in and slams the door open and jumps right in the crib and then I can't stop the chaos until someone goes to nap. He loves Ninja Turtles and Transformers lately, though Buzz Lightyear is a close one the last few days. He pretends to "transform", making weird noises while shifting his arms and legs around, then darts away all transformed. Children. What strange creatures. Entertaining though!

The personality on this one is shining through. He plays shy at strangers, except other children. With other kids he runs right up, shouts "Hi!" in their face, then pretends to fall to the ground dramatically, then jumping up and doing a forced laugh.

He's loving learning. He wants to know everything. Right now he's working on phonics. He asks all the time what sounds the letters make. And counting past fifteen, we're getting into the twenties now.

Well, the older one is being quiet, better check what's going on before the chaos of the day starts!

Talking and Singing

These days T loves to talk. "Ah-Mah-Mah-Mumumum..."and on and on... It is really cute to just see him go on for ages entertaining himself with the noises he can make. He also started clapping yesterday, which is exciting, now that he's getting more coordination, I hope to start teaching him a few signs. They helped so much with K, and I often wish T could talk and tell us what was up!

He is also growing like a weed. We pulled out a bunch of K's old 12-18 month clothes to re-supply T's wardrobe since he's been growing out of everything so fast! Some are still too big, but that's good because he'll have room to grow, but some of them are already tight!

K is really into singing the last few days. He asks for Itsy Bitsy Spider and Wheels on the bus. He loves the part about the babies on the bus and when the moms go "Shh, shh, shh" so he requests it again and again...

I found a book for him at Value Village that was about trains. Actually, it's just a train, but each page is a picture of the car on the train. He now knows "Engine", "Sand Car" (and I'm amazed with how clearly he says this one), "Cattle Car", "Dining Car", "Sleep car" and "Caboose"! I could hear him last night in his room going "Engine... Caboose!". He's also been reading "Good night Gorilla" a lot lately and last night when we tucked him in and I said "Good night" he said "Good night Gorilla!". He can practically read the whole thing himself now, and describes even the pages with no words with his own description, either in words or actions, it really is amazing to see him develop!

Time for Clean Up!

I'm so proud of K this morning, he's learning to clean up! He wanted so badly to play with a drum set, but I told him he had to clean up the blocks and trains he dumped on the floor first. We worked on that off and on for about half an hour, with me reminding him that I'd let him play drums if he just cleaned up first. Finally I went and helped, he had done most of it already. By the time we finished, he had changed his mind and wanted to play with a magnetic alphabet and number set. So I gave him that and he played happily while I worked in the bedroom, changing sheets and cleaning. Then he put it all away and gave it back to me and asked for his alphabet cards! Wow! We have been working on cleaning up at night, making him clean up all his toys before he could get dessert. The other night he didn't do anything and totally freaked out when it was bedtime and he didn't get his cookie! I rescued him though and got him to clean up the few toys in his room, and then he had a cookie. But, he has been really good about making sure we "Kweem up!" after dinner since! I hope it's sinking in!

We've also started swimming lessons for both boys. Well, again for K. But last Saturday was T's first lesson! He doesn't seem too impressed yet, but at least he's not screaming the whole time like some of the other babies there! You'd just think for a babe that loves bathtime so much, that splashing in the pool would be better, but apparently not. At least not yet.

T also cut his second tooth this week. The first one is still coming up, and now the second has just come through. I think he's still got more coming through though since he loves to shove anything he can chew on as far back in his mouth as they can go!

Lately we've all been sick off and on, the colds and things are making their way through the household. I hope it lets up soon, we have lots of work to do in the next few weeks!

We have teeth!

Well, Tiernan does now! His first tooth, bottom right (his right) has cut through today. And it has made for an exciting week! Last week I was at the docs for a check up and asked her to look at Tiernan as well since he started with a nasty cough the night before. She said he had Bronchitis and gave him some antibiotics to take for the next 10 days. So we started that and he started having "digestive issues" that involved many frequent and stinky diaper changes. Poor guy. And then all week this week he's just been grumpy as can be, making me want to pull my hair out or run away from home or have my reproductive abilities disabled. At times, all three! At least now we know what the issue is (or at least one of them) and today has been better. No fewer grump attacks, but at least I can help him out now that I know what's going on.

Kenton has taken to singing his ABC's now. He wants to sing them, but doesn't really know the words, so he just goes "W X Y Z, na naw ABC, nex... sig a me!". He's also showing much interest in the potty in the last couple of days, wanting to sit on it (and sing ABC) now and then. So that's progress! I don't really want him to learn and then back track when we move, but I think it'll stick more if he's initiating anyways.

Today we were having lots of fun setting up a fort with the couch cushions! He loved it and called it his castle. I don't really like doing it with our couch, but he saw it at his friend's and loved it, so I didn't want to say no. Once we've moved we'll probably be getting gifted a couch from family to use in the kids' play area, so they can use that one for forts to their hearts content.

Pbbbtt...

Tiernan's newest trick is raspberries. It's especially funny since he will repeat them to you if you do some for him!

Kenton randomly counted to five the other day! It just surprised Jon and I since we knew he knows his numbers (well, to 10, let's be reasonable here), just not really how to count. Does that make sense? But, he just up and counted off the fingers on one hand one day when we were sitting on the couch. Just goes to show you once again how much they learn even when you aren't teaching!

Another new game we've invented is Body Parts. Apparently this is great to do while waiting for some family members to finish a meal. Kenton loves to point out body parts ("CHIM!" - chin, "Eboos" - Elbows, etc) to show off what he knows! Of course this only works with what he can show above the table, but he's getting really good at things like the difference between lips and mouth.

And I took Kenton to his first movie today! We went and saw Planet 51. I hope he appreciates in later years how much time I spent choosing his first movie at the theater! Probably not, but one can dream. The choices were: Alvin and the Chipmunks (Uh, no), Princess and the Frog (which I enjoyed, but figured Kenton might not appreciate that factoid in a few years, like at cootie age when girl stuff isn't cool), or Planet 51. It was pretty funny, for older kids and adults, but I don't think he really enjoyed himself as much as I'd hoped. Oh well. It was worth it just to watch him get folded in half trying to sit in the theater seats! And we ate popcorn, drank pop and juice and I even snuck in a small container of mini M&M's in my "purse".

Finally, some more reading we've been doing. We borrowed Dog's Colorful Day from the library, as well as Dogabet. Then there's Canada 123 and a couple others we haven't gotten to yet. I really would like to do something fun with Dog's colorful day, but I need to tape it back together first! Kenton got a hold of it when I wasn't looking and ripped a page into three pieces! I'm sure it's not the first library book to have such a fate, especially in the kids section, and it won't be the last!

Storytime!

Lately we've been reading a lot. K will often request each story (and we read 2-3 stories at a time) at least twice. One of his new favourites is Hooray for Fish. He got it as a gift exchange gift and is now really getting into "reading" it. He knows it so well now that he "reads" some parts. He loves the upside down, round and round fish "A-sie down! Roun-roun!", "Spish, Spash, Spoosh!" and my favourite part at the end when he finds his mommy fish and goes "Yay! Mum! Kiss kiss!". It's so cute to watch!

T is enjoying his solid foods and is now eating chicken at dinner. He has been loving watching K and especially any other kids. Yesterday we had K's friend over for a play date and T did not want to eat or sleep because he was too busy watching them play! He was so excited to see them running around and playing with toys, and sometimes playing with him. K is now asking when he can go see his friend again, he won't stop talking about her!

Still here!

Well, the last week and a bit here have been busy! The weekends are always nuts as we try to fit as much cleaning (and also fun) as we can into two days. Kenton is still sick, he wakes up every morning sounding like he's going to cough up a lung, but then it settles down and he's his usual self, if a tad more grumpy than before.

Let's see, we had T's six month shots on Tuesday as well as a teeth check up for K. Then we went to the dollar store and K got to pick one thing for being so good (well mostly good, for whatever reason, he's terrified of people looking in his mouth). He can be very sweet sometimes and was putting his purchase on the counter to pay and then saying "Aik-yu!".

Wednesday we had a playdate at his friend's place. He had a blast. I was wondering what he would do going to a girl's house if all she had were barbies and ponies to play with. Not that I'm one of those "My son can't play Barbies" people, just more that I was thinking he'd be like "Where's the trains!? (she had trains) Where's the cars? (she had cars) Where's the neato toys I don't have? (she had lots of those too)". They did great together and I can't wait to have them over here this Wednesday.

Thursday was T's checkup at the pediatrician's. He now weighs 18lbs, 4 1/2 oz and is right around the middle for height, weight and head circumference. Both boys did pretty good all day, I had had an appointment in the morning that T slept through and K did good considering I tried to be smart and bring the DVD player, but forgot to charge it so it wasn't working. So I pulled it out and he got all excited, but then couldn't watch anything since it had no juice. We also got our Valentine's all sent out Thursday too. Everyone should be getting them soon!

Friday was just Friday, spent cleaning and buying groceries. We've had a pretty lazy week for activities, K has been engrossed in his trains all week, it's hard to tear him away for food or sleep. Although he did get a puzzle this week, Thomas of course, it was his "being good" at Thursday appointments present. It was so funny to watch him so engrossed in the puzzle. He was doing really well with it too! Then Friday he also got a Thomas ABC card set. So we have lots of new activities we can do with those too!

T's been eating lots of new foods, we have green beans, pears and now chicken for him to try too!

I called it!

Yup, the sickies have arrived. K woke up today with a cough and general crankiness, but other than that is bouncing around and okay. He's eating so far, but more the munching type, a little here a little there. We'll see how the rest of the day goes. So far T seems okay, I think I hear some coughing and congestion in his chest, but that could be my mommy super hearing going glitchy and making me hear things...

Yesterday we had a friend of K's from playgroup come over for a playdate. It was nice for K to have someone over for a while, and they seem to have similar personalities, so they had a blast and didn't drive each other bonkers! There were no major fights and overall I think it went really well. She sure chatted up a storm and it seemed to me that last night K was trying to talk more in sentences than he has been in the past. K really needs to learn some social skills, like not taking others' toys, or getting in their faces and I think the best way is for him to just play with someone, so I'm glad these two got on so well. Next week we plan to go over to their place so it'll be something nice for him to look forward to.

The only major downer to the event was after they left, K gave me a heart attack. I had put T in his crib so I could use the bathroom, before I got there though, I heard glass breaking in the living room. So I go racing in there to see what happened and K had knocked over the water glass that little B's mom had been using. Lesson #897 - take all drinking glasses with you when you leave a room. So I grabbed him off the couch (where he was standing - again), and bent down for a sec to assess the damage and how best to clean it. Well, he reached over, quick as can be, grabbed a piece of glass and tried to shove it in his mouth! I screamed "NO!" at him (gut reaction) and grabbed it from him as gently as I could so I wouldn't cut him trying to get it away. Where the heck do they come up with this stuff? Gee, I think I'll try and eat a sharp shard of glass!? Won't that be fun? Oi. I managed to get it away and threw K in the boys' room and closed the door while I cleaned the mess. Fun. And no matter how thoroughly you think you've cleaned up, there's always a stray piece of glass. Yeah. A huge one. In the bottom of the excersaucer. Of course I found it when I was trying to put T in it later that day. I hope I've got it all now but there are no injuries to speak of. So far.

Cranky bums and bathtime

Right now I'm hoping no one is getting sick, because we had a serious case of the crankies in our house yesterday. K didn't want to do anything he didn't ask to do, like eat, or get changed or have a bath. I put him down for a nap screaming (again). He barely ate any dinner and only did that standing on me on my chair, refused to sit in his seat. This often means the sickies are on their way, but today he seems okay, just still cranky.

T adores K. Follows his movements everywhere and barely cries when he gets pushed over (never!). K also loves to make T laugh and will often do his best to get his attention (like push him over, cause we all know that always works!). So bathtime is working into a deal where we do both boys at once. It's a great way for them to play together and make each other laugh, and where there's lots of giggles, both parents are usually there. So I guess it's actually more of a family time these days (non-Yoga days of course). This can also mean lots of water. On the floor. But, hey, what's a few extra towels in exchange for some little kid laughter?

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

It was a Monday yesterday. The morning went pretty good, T slept till about 9 which gave K and I time to get some colouring in in the morning. So we did more colour work and played some trains. K helped me make lunch of macaroni and hot dogs (Coni-dog), by helping put the hot dogs in the pan, eat cucumber and stir the macaroni! He can be a big helper sometimes!

Then K was being super grumpy so I decided it was time for his nap. I got him packed up and we went to read a story (or two). He calmed down slightly for this but started up again as soon as I left and wouldn't stay in his bed. I'd left him his Big Thomas book in hopes that he'd calm down, he did really well with it the other night, sitting and "reading" it before he fell asleep. Well, about an hour later and he was still freaking out, I went in there and there were some pages from the book, in bits everywhere! Took me half an hour to tape it back together! I read him another couple of stories and after more crying, he finally fell asleep and then slept for 3 hours!

One of the books we read was called Let's Count by Nana... something. Anyways, I can't find any info on it online, maybe cause it's kinda old, this poor book has been taped together many times and needs some more! But, it was good for showing numbers, their words and how many that represents. It counted up to 15, then 20,30,40,50 and 100. We were counting the items on each page, but stopped counting after 20. K is really getting interested in numbers, and can recognize a few. He was pointing them out at the grocery store the other day!

A lesson in listening.

On Thursday we also did some colouring. I wrote out our names for K, and we named colours. K was having fun but also had to think really hard! I had written out our names in different colours and was asking him what colour the letter was and he'd name the letter instead. So the poor guy was confused when I said "No, silly, what colour is this?". Eventually he got it, but you could almost see the wheels turning as he was trying to figure it out!

Friday we had playgroup in the morning, which went really well. K started to get out of hand, running through the one room where all the babies (all around T's age) were laying on the floor playing. So I took him out of the room and sat him down and explained he can't run through the room like that. I don't think he understood me, but whatever the reason, he did calm down after that. Well, long enough to get packed up and go home!

We had an exciting potty day on Friday too. Not in a good way. In a messy way. Let's leave it at that.

Friday we read Alphabet City. It's a collection of paintings of the city, but there's shapes in the pictures that look like letters. I picked this one up from the library, cause K often does this, points out letters in ordinary things! He loves this book, and found most of the letters right away. Some I'll let slide, like Q was hard for me to see too(I honestly still don't see it, but it's the picture where Q should be so...).

This weekend I picked up more supplies for crafts and projects. We're going to finish our Valentines and get those shipped out this week. I also bought some Bleeding Art Tissue (got the idea from Frugal Family Fun Blog). And HA! to the crazy lady at Michael's who said they don't carry it, I found it! It lives with the regular tissue paper. I want to try to use it and make our own version of pages from Color Dance, showing how colours mix to make other colours. Update - apparently we had to stop for some colouring time and I tried it out, not working the way I wanted, but I'm hoping some watercolour paper might work better to do it on. We'll see. I also need some kid free time to try it out first, so I can get the kinks out.

K and I went out yesterday and bought some Thomas undies. With his wanting to wear his Cars underwear so bad the other day I hope that maybe wearing his absolute favourite character right now would help. The only size they had left was 3X though, so right now they're rather huge, but they haven't been washed yet. Some of his other undies are almost too small now after they got washed so I'm hoping these will shrink enough. And if not, that a stitch or two in the sides will help them stay up. So far all he wants to do is wear them over his Pull-ups and carry an armload of Thomas undies around!

Also, K was getting restless here so I quickly made a "sewing" project for him. I've been wanting to do it for a while, so I had the stuff, but I just punched holes in a square of craft foam and gave him a shoelace to "sew" into the holes. I don't think he's ready for this yet, I showed him how to do it, then gave it to him and he just ripped the laces out, making big rips in the foam! Maybe when I have more time to sit with him and do it we'll try again. Or I may need to glue two sheet together to make it stronger, one thin sheet might not be sturdy enough.

Enough about K, time for a T update! He's loving sweet potatoes and is eating up a storm! He also seems to be sleeping lots the last few days, so maybe a growth spurt is happening here! He is really enjoying bath time at the moment, especially since we've started putting him in the tub with K. The two of them are having a blast together! The giggles at bath time make it hard to want it to end (though bedtime right after is nice...quiet...)! Speak of the devil, I think he's up!

Reading and Potty

Yesterday we read Color Dance. It was really pretty, and showed how colours mix to make other colours in a way that K loved. The girl dancers twirled their scarves together to form different colours. Then the little boy showed how white makes them pale and grey and black make them dark. He asked me to read it again after his Thomas story at nap time! It also gave me a great idea for a craft project to work on next week! I just have to find the materials...

K was also very determined not to have a nap yesterday. He insisted that he had to go potty (which he never does) and then wanted to wear his underwear. I think he just wanted them cause they have Lightning McQueen on them cause he wet them about thirty seconds after putting them on and so they were dirty this morning and he wouldn't wear any other ones! He was having such a fuss at the time though that I put him back in Pull-ups and put him to bed. He protested loudly for a few minutes then slept for three hours! Jon said K peed on the potty last night! I do think maybe it's time to try the potty again and see how things go. I'd like to find some Thomas undies, maybe that's the incentive he needs to wear them and keep them dry!

We have pictures!

While we were out yesterday, I had all the pictures from the camera put on a DVD (and we got an extra since they were doing buy one get one!). So I can finally update the old posts with some pictures. Unfortunately, we're still not functioning for new pictures.

But, quick run-down so I can go do pictures...

Tuesday we played more of the Feather Game, first doing the secondary colours (green, purple, orange and pink. Pink, cause we had some pink feathers in the pack). The pink and orange confused him and he kept getting those mixed up, but he did pretty good I think! Then we did the primary ones again (and again). I think we'll do them all together next time and see how he does.

Yesterday I had an appointment, so we left early and went to the library for story time. K didn't want to listen to stories so much as run around playing with the foam letters, grabbing the librarian's story time tools, and try to play with the other kids. So we snuck out of the story time room halfway through and went to play with the trains instead. Which distracted the kids at a daycare that were sitting right there trying to read a story, but not my fault they sat beside the train table!

But, we did get a few books about colours and the alphabet. And a couple Thomas DVD's, for something new. I hope to go through the books with K this week and work on our colours some more while he's interested.

T has been sitting up a lot lately. And trying to stand. Oh boy. He's doing well with carrots, which reminds me, I need to make more!

Okay, I'm off to add more pictures to the blog now!

Valentines

Yesterday we worked some more on the valentine hearts we made a couple of weeks ago now. I got K to "write" on the backs so we can send them off to family soon, so they will arrive before Valentine's Day. He also put stickers on them. After much coercing, he didn't want to waste them on paper, they're much better on his arms! Now just to get him to write out his Thomas valentines and put stickers on those!

We worked on naming the colours some more, and he is definitely getting better at doing that, he gets the primary right most of the time and now the secondary colours are coming along nicely. He especially loves pointing out purple and green! His absolute favourite colours are blue-red though. It comes out just like that, "Blue-wed!" as one word! Too funny!

T had more carrots for lunch and dinner last night, and so far they seem to be agreeing with him. He's also enjoying them immensely, he can't get enough! Wonder what to try next? Green beans, squash or sweet potato?

K keeps wanting to play with T all the time. He kept trying to pick him up, showing me where to sit him so they could lay together on the couch, and showing him all the toys. He was combing T's hair this morning and trying to do helicopter tickles. I really hope this continues!

Weekend wrap-up!

The weekend was pretty calm, we did much running around shopping, cleaning and then just hanging out at home. It always seems that no matter how much time you think you have, there's still not enough to get everything done. Or enough energy, but that's another matter I think.

K has been enjoying his train set we found at Oma and Opa's so much that when we had found another (cheap) kind on clearance this week, we decided to come back and get it this weekend for him. Of course when we went back, it was packed up on a pallet ready to go back into the warehouse, but Jon managed to wiggle it out (and probably totally wreck the structure of the pallet!). Needless to say K was thrilled, as well as nothing gets by that boy. Jon had bought it ahead of us and wrapped it in two bags so he couldn't see until we wanted him to. He still saw it and asked the whole way home about the trains! When we got home, he didn't want to do anything but play with his trains. He refused to eat Pizza even! We did strap him down and he did finally eat, but it was all business and let him back at his trains! He plays with them non stop. NON STOP. So that's good.

I finally convinced Jon that T is ready for something more substantial than cereal in his solid food diet. He seems to be doing fine with the wheat now, we just backed off a bit and tried again even more slowly. So last night he got his first taste of carrot puree. And ate the whole thing! He rather seemed to like it and I'm sure he'll gobble up another cube for lunch!

This morning T seems to be about an 8 (out of 10) on the Giggles scale, and K I haven't had a chance to try yet. He's busy playing trains.

Gymnastics

Well, today I missed an exciting day with K. I had blood tests and Dr's appointments that would not work with K's presence so I got Jon to take him to the Friday Gymnastics I've been wanting to do with him. I guess it's pretty much a free run of the Gymnastics club for an hour and a half. Apparently he had a great time, but now has "mat burn" on his forehead! He doesn't care, though I think I may leave finishing cutting his hair for a while longer, the bangs kinda cover the red mark on his head!

So T got to come with me to do a 2 hour long blood test. Fun. He did really well actually, and had the people at the lab in stitches with his giggles.

A bunch of the ladies were asking where K was though. How bad is it that they remember him as running around throwing things? Seriously, most of the time he was strapped in his stroller, and he only threw my water bottle. Once. Yes, it made a mess but I cleaned it up! And threw is a bit of a stretch, more like tossed it. Anyways, it appears my child is the kind that's hard to forget!

My, how fast things go downhill...

After much fun this morning with our Feather Game, we had lunch early, I thought "this is great, they'll be in bed for naps around the same time!". Haha, the joke was on me.

K went "down" for his nap around 1:30. T was crying hysterically about something, I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what. Feed him cereal. Nope. Nurse him. Nope. Change him. Maybe... Nope. Play in exersaucer. No. Play on the floor. No. Now I'm getting desperate. Watch TV? (pretty colours are entrancing). Not it either. As a very last resort, cause he hates the stuff, I made a bottle of formula. He sucked it back in record time and proceeded to fill his diaper. Fun. K is still howling in his room about the unfairness in the world at having to have a naptime at all. Then he starts saying he's pooped. Grr. So I change T, he passes out on me, and I put him in the bassinet and go check on K. Sure enough, poop.

Not wanting to make a big deal of it cause he's supposed to be napping, we go to the bathroom, do the changing him thing and he is now quite happy with himself and tries to go into the living room to play. Well. His tune changed when he found out he was still required to have naptime. He was some upset. At this point, so was I.

Knowing he was safe, just mad, I finally had my shower and came out to K in near hysterics in his room. I got dressed, and by then K figured out I was not in the shower and he had calmed down to the hiccuping sobs. He's going on about poop again. Not wanting to leave it in case it is the real thing, and also because it was now after 3 (almost 2 hours of screaming is probably enough), I went in to check. No poop. The big liar.

He was quite pleased he wasn't in exile anymore. I gave him a time out to calm down (which one of us I'm not sure yet), and then made him clean up his room. Being confined in there and upset he apparently felt the need to pull every stuffie off the shelves (he could reach, thank goodness), and pull apart a couple of hooks the kids got for Christmas, ripping the wrapper off them. So the room was a mess. He was all too happy to help clean it up, as long as it meant no nap.

Which meant the rest of the evening was very long too.
